Opeth Reissue Four of Their Most Iconic Albums: Lamentations (DVD CD Combo), Blackwater Park, Damnation, Deliverance
We always love getting mail here at Pure Rock, but it’s even better when that mail includes three CDs and a live DVD/CD combo . . . thanks The End Records! Originally released on April 10th, the four reissues from Opeth come at the perfect time. After all, Opeth is wrapping up their US tour with Mastodon and Ghost with only eight shows left that have them playing across the Southeast and East coast (check out the remaining tour dates below).
Opeth, the prominent Swedish metal quintet, has sold over 300,000 collective Soundscans of these three albums and one live DVD/CD recording. The four iconic titles are being reissued as a part of The End Records’ recent acquisition of rights to the Music for Nations catalog. Tracing Opeth’s transformation from their black metal era to their more recent progressive rock flavor, Lamentations (DVD/CD combo), Blackwater Park, Damnation, and Deliverance are essential reissues for any Opeth fan. Check out the album descriptions below!
Lamentations – Special Edition reissue:
Lamentations marks the first time that Opeth will release an audio-video combination in a single package. It includes a live DVD and 2-disc CD live recording, as well as a documentary covering the making of sister (or brother?) albums Deliverance and Damnation.
Blackwater Park – Casebound Legacy Edition: (and the case is badass!)
The Blackwater Park reissue package includes a bonus DVD and 28-page full-color casebound booklet–and it is sweet! Blackwater Park, Opeth’s first album to be released in North America, also marks the band’s first collaboration with Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson (who also produced Damnation and Deliverance).
Damnation – CD Reissue:
Damnation is a vital album for any Opeth enthusiast because it represents the band’s departure from death metal and their turn to progressive rock. And perhaps most important, Damnation is the only Opeth album to make the Billboard 200 chart.
Deliverance – CD Reissue:
Deliverance is another Opeth must have, and here’s why: Deliverance won the Swedish Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, it appeared in the Top 20 on Billboard’s Heatseekers and Top Independent Albums charts, and it is widely known as one of Opeth’s heaviest and most memorable albums.
